What is your List? How do you get one?

If you've been in the Online Marketing business for even a
short amount of time you have heard of the importance of
your "list" in building your business.

So what exactly is this list that everyone keeps talking
about?

It's that very critical list of names and emails of
potential clients who have indicated an interest in what you
are offering.

Today the use of emails is the most powerful tool available
to online marketers. Your job is to build a list of
subscribers to your newsletter and send them information
that will be useful to them. If they are interested in what
you show them, some of them will respond to one of your
offers and possibly make a purchase or enroll in one of your
affiliate programs or one of your networking ventures.

Once you have this list, it is my belief that you should
treat them with respect and "pay them" for the privilege of
accepting your emails. You achieve this by sending them
interesting and educational information that is useful to
them with some interesting offers sprinkled in from time to
time.

I find myself on way too many lists where the list owner
sends me only offers that will make them money. This leads
me to feel abused and I send them to my "junk folder".

So how do you build the list?

There are many ways to do this...some more expensive than
others...some more labor intensive.

Let's look at the most popular techniques in use by online
marketers today.

Email Marketing to purchased lists

Email marketing can be very effective but with the advent of
"spam" and it's incredibly intrusive nature we are finding
this alternative to be less and less attractive.

It requires a significant amount of editing to create an
email that doesn't trigger the spam filters of most of the
major email service providers. Words like "free" etc. raise
serious red flags and usually cause your email to be
diverted to the Junk or Spam folder.

Lists of "auto responder" leads can be purchased from leads
brokers, often "on sale" for 2 cents per lead or less. These
are leads from people who have responded to an online or TV
etc ad from the leads company in the area you are
interested. Home Business Opportunity leads seem the most
popular.

If you purchase "co-reg leads" (Google this term if you
don't know what it means) you can end up in serious trouble
with your ISP and possibly even have your email account
closed down and black-balled. Serious offenders can face
fines of $10,000 or more so be very careful.

But still, some marketers are very enthusiastic about this
category of leads and work with them extensively. I find it
too much hassle to bother.

The way you attract clients via email is to compose a series
of emails on your autoresponder and broadcast them to you
purchased list.

Making a Free Offer is a very powerful incentive for
recipients to respond to your email.

When the visitors activate your link and fill in your
information box they receive their free gift and are added
to your 'Newsletter List" and are now available to receive
more focused offers from you.

Pay-per-click

The most popular Pay-per-click program is Google Adwords:

https://adwords.google.com/

When internet users are looking for information on the net
they usually go first to their favorite Search Engine.
Google and yahoo dominate this territory. The searcher will
type in a word or a short phrase that briefly describes what
they are seeking. We call these "keywords".

As a pay per click advertiser your job is to create a brief
ad that will catch the searchers attention and enter a list
of "keywords" that are appropriate to what you are
advertising and are most likely to be words or phrases that
the searcher may in fact enter.

Your ad will appear in the right hand column of the searches
returned. If you visit a Google search page you will see
what I mean.

Your job is to be willing to pay enough for your key word so
your ad displays on the first three search pages. Keyword
bids range from 1 cent per click up to $40 and above for
highly competitive words.

You only pay if someone "clicks" on your ad.

Article Writing and Blogging

It is worth taking the time and effort to get proficient at
writing. There are many free courses on this available on
the internet.

How this works is that you write articles, preferably on an
ongoing basis, and you post them on article directories and
on your blog.

Just Google "Article Directories" for a list of relevant
sites.

There are lots of eZine and Newsletter publishers out there
who have run out of time or ideas for a new article for
their publication and do a search of the article directories
to find relevant content they can use. If they like your
article they will use it and some of their subscribers will
click on your link and subscribe to your list. They might
email your article to a friend or associate or other
newsletter writer who also uses it. As a result your
original article is broadcast far and wide.

The great advantage of this strategy is it's virtually free!

I know of article writers who have written several hundred
articles and find themselves with 80,000 and up returns on a
search for their name on Google.

I will be writing more in depth articles on these techniques
in the near future, so click my link below and subscribe to

Goals that will really get you into action in MLM

Part of my mission statement in life is to be a mentor to
people who really want to learn. I hope my articles will
provide you with many tools and strategies to make your
online career a huge success.

Network Marketing and MLM is a tough game. You really need
to know why you are doing it if you expect to succeed. We
get paid on replacement value in life...the easier we are to
replace, the less we will get paid for our efforts. A really
top MLM achiever is really difficult to find and replace and
so the income at the top is exceptional.

If you want to have success in this industry then you must
understand the absolute necessity of having a clear and
concise goal firmly fixed in your mind.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know...you've heard all of this before
but I just can't stress enough how critical this is.

If you are already a huge success then you probably aren't
reading this.

But if you're just starting out, it's important for you to
know that there is a lot of competition out there trying to
do just exactly what you are doing.

How are you going to rise above the crowd and be successful
if you don't know exactly why you're doing the work?

I have to tell you that I've been in the sales and marketing
field a lot of years and the times I have had big success
were the times when I knew exactly what I wanted and why I
wanted it.

You see with this fixed in your mind an amazing thing
begins to happen. You begin to focus on the end
result and not the immediate task in hand. Obstacles
along the way become simple stepping stones along
the path to success. A plan of action miraculously appears
and your whole attitude changes. You become immersed in the
achievement of your goal.

Now I'm willing to bet that you've heard all this before,
you've probably tried it, and for many of you it was a dud.
You felt like you were shooting blanks. You eventually
became dispirited and gave up.

Am I right?

Not to worry. Once you have a goal in your heart that
has become a burning desire, everything will change for
you.

You will be unstoppable and your great success will
begin to emerge.

What is your true vision in life?

This is the place we are told, where we must start our
search for a goal that will inspire us and fill us with fire
and ambition.

But you know what...I have a vision that I will eventually
find my true vision in life. I keep changing my mind
depending on the day and what has just happened.

I have found it to be like the search for the Holy Grail...a
lofty ideal that more often than not gets in the way of
making a plan and getting to work. I become so focused on
finding my "ultimate vision" that I don't go to work on the
first step.

Instead, I have come to realize that finding a goal I can
get in the trenches with is much more likely to get me into
motion.

What sort of goal might that be?

Well let's look at this! If you had a reliable extra income
of say $2000 per month (or $500 or whatever works for you)
coming in that you could create part time with an acceptable
amount of effort...how would that change your life? Would
you be able to retire, buy that new car, get your first home
etc?

That's what I mean by a goal I can get in the trenches
with!

It's real, it's earthy, you can feel it, you can believe
it's possible...and you can find a way to make it happen if
it truly is meaningful for you.

Sure the "vision" will lead you on to lofty ideals and
bigger things. Your "Vision" will take you to the top. But
it's the closer to home, "help me out today" goals that will
really get you into action.

Feel free to use this article on your web site, blog or in
your eZine as long as the full content is displayed without
any alteration and all active web links remain as they are.

Pay-per-Click - Will it work with MLM?

Pay-per-Click (PPC) is a popular and fairly recent form of
online advertising offered by the Search Engines that is an
excellent tool for creating a powerful list of highly
targeted leads for your MLM or other Internet Marketing
Business.

Here’s how it works:

For a "per use" fee Search engines will place your ad on
their search pages. Very briefly, visitors browsing a
search engine can see your ad and click on it if they are
interested. They are directed to a landing page of your
design where they are hopeful of finding the information
they are searching for. If they do then it may be to your
mutual benefit.

The process is facilitated by the use of
"keywords".

Keywords are search terms that people might enter into a
search engine like Google or Yahoo, when they are searching
for something on the internet. The advertiser (in this case
you) needs to create a set of specific keywords that will
be of interest to these searchers. These keywords should be
relevant to the product you are promoting.

Now whenever a user searches for that keyword on the Search
Engine, your ad will be among those appearing in the
sponsored listings on the right hand side of the search
page. If they see your ad and find it interesting
they may
"click" on your ad and visit your capture page. And if they
like your webpage they might opt-in to your website and
either buy something or join your business.

Either way you will have a new lead on your list.

The search engine charges you for every time someone clicks
on your ad. But if nothing happens there is no charge. This
is a very attractive feature of Pay-per-Click" and is a big
reason for it's popularity.

Now, ideally when they click, your ad will appear at the
top of the first page displayed--or hopefully--at least in
the first three pages. Searchers rarely go past page three
before trying another search term.

Obviously appearing on Page 1000 is not going to do you a
whole lot of good.

There are many merchants competing for traffic on the web
so
getting "clicks" is a very competitive business.
Merchants bid against each other to get top placement on the
search page listings because having your ad appear on the
first page of the listings is a huge competitive advantage.

The minimum bid is one-cent and there is (to my knowledge)
no maximum. Generally,
the more you bid the higher you go
up the rankings for that particular keyword. But Google has
some arcane ways of ranking the performance of your ad so
this may not always be the case.

Google’s PPC program is the most widely used. It goes by
the name Google Adwords. If you are using Google AdWords
your ad may also be placed on appropriate web pages of
the Google Network. This can be a very effective
exposure for your ad. The Google Network is the largest
online advertising network available, reaching over 80% of
30 day US Internet users. On search sites in the Google
Network, your ads could appear along side or above search
results or as a part of a results page a user navigates to
through a site's directory. Google's global search network
includes Froogle and Google Groups.

You are charged whenever a user clicks on your ad. You are
able to set limits on the Price-per-Click you are willing
to pay for each ad and even for each keyword and also on
the maximum daily amount you will spend.

Yahoo, MSN and other search engines also offer PPC
programs.

If you are not familiar with any of these basic concepts
you will find plenty of information on these topics by
doing a search for "Pay per Click" and "Keywords" on your
favorite search engine.

Internet MLM: Getting Started with the AWeber auto responder

As you know I am very committed to building my Network Marketing Business (aka MLM) on the Internet.

I hate the rejection factor and the incredible time inefficiency of the warm market building process. Let's face it, the internet has arrived and it ain't going away, so let's make it work for us.

But as we all discover--unless you're already an internet Guru--there are a few hurdles to be overcome first.

And right now, top of my list has been finding my way around AWeber, the auto responder I have decided to move to for my opt-in lists.

All of these online services advertise how easy it is to use their site, but I have to tell you that it just never seems to work that way for me. I find their documentation to be hopelessly inadequate and the sites way less than intuitive. It's not just AWeber; it's most of them. And I am pretty savvy around computers and the internet.

Let's just deal with one component of setting up your AWeber auto responder--using personalized salutations in your email messages--e.g. Hi Mary or Dear John etc.

How exactly are we going to set this up.

Well I am finally able to report that it's very easy if you just use the opt-in webform creation tool exactly as they set it out for you.

That sounds pretty smart and straight forward, right? Well not exactly; and here's where I got confused. AWeber sent me a tutorial indicating that personalizing messages using "first name" has way better opening rates than using the persons "full name". And I know that I feel way less threatened by a form that only asks for my first name and email.

But here's the thing! The default option when you set up your opt-in form is "email" and then "name". So people who see name in the form will enter either their first name or their "full name". Besides not pulling as well , using the full name in the salutation, such as "Hi John Smith" looks pretty tacky.

I found that when I tried to use a "custom field" to request just "first name" only, that I ran into all sorts of conflicts and it wasn't capturing the name at all. Totally my fault I'm sure in how I set it up, but just way too confusing for a beginner.

The good news is that there's a trick which isn't explained anywhere that I can find--but please let me know if it is there somewhere.

And here's the trick: the opt-in form will capture whatever name is entered in the field. Then when you want to enter a personalization field into your email e.g. "Dear first-name" you simply use the drop down list and select "first name fix". Sounds logical right?

But here's the bit that isn't explained!

This field will go and capture just the first word in the name field and return that as the name for your email. It will ignore the rest of the name. As well as that using the "fix" variable in the field, the software will automatically capitalize the first letter of the name for you.

Problem solved.

I hope this is clear. I spent a lot of frustrated time and energy getting to this place.

Seems simple I know. Am I the only one who runs across challenges like this?

Keep on winning

Best Regards

Jim
